Lake City—Jean Alice Gemberling, 87, died Friday, October 6, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa following a brief illness. A Memorial Service were held on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in Lanesboro with Pastor Lorinda Hoover officiating and burial was in the Lanesboro Cemetery.
Jean Alice Gemberling was born on February 21, 1930 at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, Iowa to Harry and Martha (Miller) Kuebler. She graduated Lanesboro High School in 1947 and attended beauty school. On August 29, 1948 Jean married Don Gemberling at Lanesboro United Methodist Church and together they raised four children. Jean was a farmer’s wife, worked in retail sales, and did bookkeeping for their business, “Gem’s Electric”. She enjoyed fishing with her husband, Don, and oftentimes out fished him, while reading a book. They loved to travel with their camper and boat in tow. Jean was a loving mom and grandmother who had a wonderful sense of humor and liked to tell a joke or lymric. She was a 75 year member of the United Methodist Church, Lanesboro, Iowa.
Jean is survived by her daughter Carol (Pat) Hardy of Lohrville, daughter Crystal Gemberling of Bonnie Lake, WA, son Jim (Deb) Gemberling of Sloan, and daughter Patti (John) Daisy of Lake City; 8 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don in 2012, son Richard, great-granddaughter Harper Gemberling, brother Raymond Kuebler and sister Marge Dewey.
