Lake City – Naomi Engstrom, 93, died Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Lake City with Pastor Paul Ferderer officiating and burial was in the Lake City Cemetery.
Naomi L. Engstrom was born October 25, 1925 in Swea City, Iowa to parents William and Fannie (Jennings) Speicher. After graduating high school in 1943, she graduated with honors from the Minneapolis College of Business. Naomi was an executive secretary for the Vice President of Railway Motors in Fairmont, MN. On July 11, 1946, she married Rudolph Engstrom in Buffalo Center, Iowa. Throughout her life, Naomi was a proud wife, mother, and homemaker. After moving to Lake City her occupations included secretary of the Chamber of Commerce and sales coordinator at Bowie Manufacturing.
She was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Lake City and was the church’s secretary along with the Ladies Aid President; she was a past president and county president of the GFWC (General Federated Woman’s Club); she was a state community improvement chairperson for many years; and co-chaired, with Katie Owen, the Rainbow Bridge cleaning in 1996. In 1999, the Lake City Monday Club won 1st place in the State Community Improvement Award and also won 3rd place in the National Community Improvement Awards held in New Orleans for the Rainbow Bridge cleaning.
Naomi is survived by her husband of 72 years, Rudy of Lake City; sons, Tom (Linda) Engstrom of Mankato, MN and David (Mary) Engstrom of Webster City, IA; daughters Teresa Engstrom (Jere Blanchfield) of Minneapolis, MN, Dawn Remsburg of Ames, IA, and Ann Engstrom (Mark Weinberg) of Big Sky, MT; 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and brother Robert Speicher of Parker, CO. She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Kim Remsburg, brothers Wallace, Gerald, Daryl, and Dean Speicher; and sisters Wilma Speicher and Gladys Merrells.
