Lake View - Raymond Lavon Larsen, 92, of Lake View, Iowa, passed away August 25, 2019. Ray was born January 19, 1927 to Raymond and Zeta (Cue) Larsen in Atlantic, Iowa and attended country school in Cass County, Iowa. He was employed with a few local farmers, a trucking company and later joined the 11th Airborne Division of the United States Army as a Battalion Supply Sargent. He was a paratrooper with 11 missions in Australia, Philippines and Japan. Ray was honorably discharged in 1946, returned home where he started his own trucking business and in 1949 met his wife-to-be, Doris Acker. They were married January 31, 1951 and had five children. Ray started farming in the Pine Grove area at Massena, Iowa in 1951, moved to Hastings, Iowa in 1957, and back to Messena, Iowa in 1959. In 1963 Ray and Doris found a permanent home in Lake View, Iowa. Ray retired from farming in 1997 and the couple moved to a home in Lake View. Ray was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church where he held several offices and was an elder. Ray loved college sports, mostly fishing and gardening, and loved all of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Ray was preceded in death by his father Raymond Larsen, mother Zeta Denney, step-father Cecil Denney, infant brother Clifford Larsen, brother James Larsen (MIA - Korean War), 3 month old half-sister Hilda Denney, half-brother Cecil Denney, and 10 month old grandson Steven Larsen. His survivors include wife Doris, of 68 years, children, Linda (Rick) Howell, Becky (Mike) Jingst, Gene (Beth) Larsen, Judy (Jay) Chandler, and Myrle (Jim) McNally, 11 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, brother, Norman (Ramona) Larsen, many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial service was held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View, Iowa on Wednesday, August 28, 2019. A private ceremony with the immediate family was held at Ferguson Cemetery.
