Lake City—Johanna Haffner, 91, died Sunday, December 8, 2019 at Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City. Per her wishes, her body has been donated to Des Moines University and no services are scheduled at this time.
Johanna Hicolina (Everts) Haffner was born on November 4, 1928, in Germany, to Johann and Johanna (Wrupts) Everts. On April 6, 1946, she married Drexel Haffner at the Lutheran Church in Lytton, Iowa. The couple farmed near Jolley until Drexel retired, then they moved to Lake City. Johanna worked as a Nurse’s Aide at SMCH in Lake City for 25 years.
Johanna is survived by her children Gene (Julie) Haffner of Windsor, CO, Ron (Susan) Haffner of Solon, IA, Ann (Larry) Lockner of Lohrville, and Brian Haffner (Dena Nichols) of Story City, IA; 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; brothers Wilbert Everts of Janesville, WI, and Donald Everts of Penn Valley, CA; and sisters Jonette Vote of Phoenix, AZ and Eilene Everts of Elk River, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Drexel; and sisters Hilda Zimmerle and Trientje Cooper.
