Auburn - Judith Kay Brend, 82, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2021 surrounded by her family. Per her wishes, private family services were held at Lampe & Powers Funeral Home with burial in Oaklawn Cemetery, Auburn.
A daughter of Albert “Bud” and Wanda (Tubbs) Putbrese, she was born Dec. 20, 1938. She grew up on a farm north of Breda and graduated from Auburn High School in 1957.
After graduation she attended Iowa School of Beauty in Des Moines and worked as a stylist in Des Moines and Boone. On June 24, 1961 she married David Brend. The couple made their home in Auburn where they raised three children Shelley, Melissa, and Timothy. They owned and operated Brend Oil Company for 47 years. She served on the Auburn City Council and was a Girl Scout leader.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Auburn. Judy enjoyed reading, ceramics, decorating her home, flowers, word searches, and spending time with her family. She was an avid Elvis Presley fan and enjoyed visiting Graceland.
Survivors include her husband Dave of Auburn; children Shelley (Glen) Snyder of Carroll, Missy (Steve) Dornath of Lake View, and Tim (Christina Hallberg) of Indianola; four grandchildren: Nikki, Quinton, Jake, and Ethan; three great-grandchildren: Kali, Kiernan, and Ollie; brother-in-law Stan Stover of Stuart; and many nieces and nephews. Judy was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Marilyn Stover, and a brother Ronald (Dorothy) Putbrese.
