Lake City – Margie Gorden, 86, died Sunday, August 22, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family. Funeral services ere held on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at the Lake City Union Church with burial in the Lake City Cemetery.
Margie Jean Fertig was born on July 7, 1935 in Sac City, Iowa to James and Lillian (Barthman) Fertig. She graduated from Sac City High School in 1953. On July 31, 1954, Margie married Ellet Franklin “Frank” Gorden in Jackson, MN. They made their home in Lake City, Iowa where they welcomed 4 children. After their children were grown, Frank and Margie moved to Crimora, Virginia where they lived for 16 years. They returned to Lake City in 2002. She was a member of the Lake City Union Church and enjoyed gardening, baking and she especially loved spending time with her family.
Margie is survived by her son Steve (Karen) Gorden of Lake City; daughters Glenda (Dennis) Gentry of Lohrville and Sue Stone of Lake City; grandchildren: Corey (Carrie) Gentry of Churdan, Stephanie (Eric) Burns of Lake City, Josh Wine of West Des Moines, Nick (Carrie) Gorden of Lake City, Megan (Derek) Filmer of Ankeny, Brittanie (Tony) Dusenberry of Lake City, and Mackenzie Gorden of Lake City; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers Don (Becky) Fertig of Polk City and Mike (Kit) Fertig of Arkansas; and sister Pam (Stephen) Roach of Lake City. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Frank in 2009; son Lyle in 1973; grandson Jake Wine; son-in-law Jim Stone; brother Jim Fertig; and sisters Barb Bogardus and Shirley Goheen.
